Lake Forest Pump Station

Wastewater Pump Station Electrical Rehabilitation | Tampa, Florida

Wastewater Pump Station Electrical Rehabilitation | Tampa, Florida

Built From the Ground Up by Experienced Electrical Contractors

Suncoast Instrumentation & Electrical performed the electrical construction associated with the major rehabilitation of the Lake Forest Pump Station, an existing municipal wastewater pumping facility for the City of Tampa.

Unlike a new pump station constructed from the ground up, Lake Forest required the removal and replacement of the existing electrical infrastructure within an operating wastewater facility. Existing electrical equipment, raceways, conductors, boxes, pump connections, and associated components were removed as required to make way for the new installation.

The result was essentially a complete new electrical, controls, and instrumentation system constructed within an existing pump station.

Complete Electrical Reconstruction

Following demolition of the existing electrical infrastructure, Suncoast I&E constructed and installed the station's new electrical systems.

The rehabilitation included new electrical service equipment, power distribution, motor and pump controls, raceway systems, pump connections, junction and isolation boxes, grounding, site electrical, instrumentation, and communications infrastructure.

Although Lake Forest was a rehabilitation project, the electrical scope closely resembled new construction-the electrical system was rebuilt from the ground up.

New Power & Pump Control Systems

Built From the Ground Up by Experienced Electrical Contractors

The rehabilitated station incorporates a 480-volt, three-phase electrical system serving two 20 HP submersible wastewater pumps.
Suncoast I&E's electrical construction scope included:

  • Electrical service and metering infrastructure
  • Service entrance and switching equipment
  • Portable emergency-generator connection
  • Motor control panel
  • Pump control panel
  • Pump and control junction boxes
  • Submersible pump power and control wiring
  • Underground and aboveground raceway systems
  • Grounding and bonding
  • Site and area lighting
  • Equipment and field terminations

The completed installation brings utility power, emergency-power provisions, motor controls, pump controls, and field equipment together as an integrated electrical system for the rehabilitated facility.

Instrumentation, Controls & SCADA

Modern wastewater pump stations require more than power distribution and motor wiring.

The Lake Forest rehabilitation incorporated pump controls, wet-well level sensing, field instrumentation and control wiring, SCADA equipment, and communications infrastructure.

Suncoast I&E's combined electrical and instrumentation experience allows us to execute the complete field installation while understanding how the individual systems interact-from the pumps and motor controls to the pump control panel, field devices, alarms, level instrumentation, and SCADA system.

For general contractors, that means having an electrical subcontractor capable of handling both the power and I&C sides of a complex pump station project.

Built for Wastewater Infrastructure

Pump station rehabilitation presents challenges that ordinary commercial electrical construction does not.

Existing infrastructure, wet wells, corrosive environments, underground raceways, equipment interfaces, control systems, temporary operating requirements, and coordination between the owner, engineer, utility, equipment manufacturers, and other trades all have to be considered throughout construction.

Suncoast I&E understands these environments and builds electrical and control systems with long-term reliability, accessibility, and maintainability in mind.

Lake Forest Pump Station Project Scope

Suncoast I&E's work on the Lake Forest Pump Station rehabilitation included:

  • Existing electrical system demolition
  • New utility service infrastructure
  • Electrical service and power distribution
  • Emergency-power connection provisions
  • Motor control systems
  • Pump control systems
  • Submersible pump power and controls
  • Underground and aboveground raceway systems
  • Wet-well electrical interfaces
  • Level instrumentation and field devices
  • SCADA and communications infrastructure
  • Grounding and bonding
  • Site electrical and lighting
  • Equipment and field terminations
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and startup support

From removal of the existing electrical infrastructure through installation and integration of the new system, Lake Forest demonstrates Suncoast I&E's ability to execute major wastewater pump station rehabilitation projects.

Pump Station Rehabilitation & New Construction

Suncoast Instrumentation & Electrical provides electrical, instrumentation, and controls construction for both existing pump station rehabilitations and new pump stations constructed from the ground up.

The Lake Forest Pump Station demonstrates our rehabilitation capabilities-removing an existing electrical system and rebuilding the station with modern power, controls, instrumentation, and SCADA infrastructure.

For an example of our new pump station construction capabilities, view our Oregon Pump Station project, where Suncoast I&E performed the electrical and I&C construction for a new municipal wastewater pump station.
